We’re in the little wine town of Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy. At the recommendation of someone at the Beaune Tourism Office, we walked across town to taste some wine and tour a wine cellar. We’ve arrived at our destination: Patriarche. Continue reading “Wine Tasting in Beaune”
Bon Déjeuner in Beaune
Lunch in Beaune
C’est l’huere pour un Beaune Déjeuner! We’re in the charming little town of Beaune, 25 miles south of Dijon. It’s time for lunch, (aka “déjeuner”). We had done our homework, so we already had a couple of restaurants in mind. After some wandering around, we found our way to one of them. It looked like our kind of place, so we went in, got seated, and settled in for lunch. The name of the restaurant was Le Conty. Continue reading “Bon Déjeuner in Beaune”
Day Trip to Beaune
Yesterday we took the train from Paris to Dijon, got settled in our apartment, then did some casual exploring around town. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant/pizza joint. Great pizza! We sat outside on a patio. It was nice. Today we’re taking a day trip to nearby Beaune. Continue reading “Day Trip to Beaune”
A Walk Down Rue de la Liberté, Dijon
We’ve made it to our apartment in Dijon, settled in, and now we’re heading out on our first walk to check out the town. Our street dead-ends into an intriguing little passageway, so we walked over to take a closer look. We went in. When we came out on the other side, we were standing in front of a huge building known as the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. Wow – It is one impressive building! Our Dijon Apartment
This morning we took the train from Paris to Dijon. Then we took a 10-minute taxi ride from the train station to an apartment we had reserved. We met the owners — a nice couple who live in one of the other apartments in the building. They’ve just given us the grand tour of our Dijon apartment — our home for the next four days. Continue reading “Our Dijon Apartment”
Au Revoir Paris, Bonjour Dijon!
It’s time to say “au revoir” to Paris. We packed our bags, tidied up the apartment, and put the key in a lock box. Outside on the street, a taxi was waiting for us. The driver took us to the famous old train station called “Gare de Lyon.” It’s sad to leave Paris, but at the same time, it’s exciting to be off to someplace new. Continue reading “Au Revoir Paris, Bonjour Dijon!”
Last Night in Paris, Continued
It’s our last night in Paris. We’re down in a wine “cave” at O Chateau, being guided though the wine-producing regions of France, taste, by taste. From here we’ll go to dinner at another restaurant on our list. Then it’ll be time to pack, because in the morning we’re taking a train to Dijon. Continue reading “Last Night in Paris, Continued”
Last Night in Paris – A Visit to O Chateau
Today we went on our boat ride on the Seine. That was fun. Then we had lunch at a little restaurant near city hall, and now we’re going to walk back to the apartment. Our plan is to get back to the apartment, then take it easy for awhile. Tonight we’re going wine tasting at a place called O Chateau. Should be interesting! Continue reading “Last Night in Paris – A Visit to O Chateau”
Boat Ride on the Seine, Part 2
It’s a beautiful day for a boat ride on the Seine river. We’re cruising along on a “Batobus” boat – the boat version of a hop-on/hop-off tourist bus. We boarded at a dock near the Louvre Museum, then set off toward the Eiffel Tower, passing under Pont Alexandre III along the way. Pont Alexandre III is the fanciest bridge in Paris. Really nice. Boat Ride on the Seine, Part 1
Today we’re going to go on a boat ride on the river Seine that runs through Paris. We’re ready to go, so without any further ado, out the door, down the stairs, through the courtyard, and out the front door we went.
There’s a shop next door to our apartment building that sells only one thing: éclairs. Can you believe it? — A store that sells nothing but éclairs. I’ve seen ‘em in the window every day since we’ve been here, but it seems like we’ve always just eaten, so I haven’t done a taste test yet. Continue reading “Boat Ride on the Seine, Part 1”
