The travel notes below are tips, recommendations, suggestions, or logistical information that might be useful to someone lucky enough to be planning a trip to Dublin.
Our Hotel in Dublin
While in Dublin, we stayed at the Roxford Lodge Hotel. We chose it as a trade-off between cost and location. The rates were substantially lower than comparable hotels closer to the city center, and we thought it might still be within walking distance. With all the construction going on in Dublin at the time, (and all the walking we were already doing), that turned out to not be the case. It wasn’t a problem. We really liked this hotel. Our rooms was great, the service was excellent, and the breakfast buffet was fabulous.
Our Foodie Tour
We went on a foodie tour provided by “Delicious Dublin Tours. ” As of this writing, (July 2020), Hetty has had to put Delicious Dublin Tours on hold, but you can check out her blog, here.
Food and Drink
Temple Bar – The Pub, not the Neighborhood
We managed to hit quite a few pubs while in Dublin. Hey – it’s Dublin. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! “The Temple Bar” pub in the Temple Bar district was our favorite. As far as food goes, we only had the oysters there, but since we’re oyster lovers, and we both thought they were the best we’d ever had, I thought I’d mention it. On our next trip to Dublin/Ireland, we’re going to make oysters a priority!
Boxty
It’s in Temple Bar. Great place for traditional Irish fare. We’ll go back for sure.
The Dakota
Nice place for lunch. Good food. Sounded like they have a lot more going on at night, but we were only there for lunch.
Bruxelles
Sit at an outside table there, have drinks, and people-watch. A VERY pleasant way to pass some pass some time and perhaps rest your feet from all that walking you’ve been doing!
Zizzi
Excellent pizza.
The Bank on College Green
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Zizzi
High-end Italian. Great food. This is another place that we’ll be sure to dine at next time we’re in Dublin.
